Updates on COVID-19 from David Stonesifer

June 1, 2020

Communication Updated: June 1 2020

To our clients and friends:

In the past few months, the global community has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic with an inspiring display of unity. As we navigate through uncharted waters together, our shared commitment to flattening the curve has yielded positive results.

Now, Pennsylvania and New Jersey – states where Herbein has physical locations – are beginning to reopen to business. We are pleased to announce that Herbein has responsibly re-opened our offices in these states.

The health and safety of our people, our clients, and our communities is our number one priority during this process – and we are accelerating many forward-looking initiatives in our offices that address our new business landscape. You will find the same level of dedication in our team, but things will look and feel a little different for our people and our clients.

Going forward, we want to preserve the very best of how we have provided exceptional client service and protected our team. Face masks / coverings are required for all team members outside private offices at all times. In addition to posted health information related to COVID-19 for all team members, all offices have plentiful supplies of wipes, sanitizers, and masks. In every office, we are conducting enhanced deep cleanings that place special emphasis on all high-touch surfaces and heavily trafficked areas. Our goal is to exceed the standards outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state health authorities for a safe and healthy workplace centered on cleaning and sanitizing protocols.

For the foreseeable future, our locations are closed to outside visitors, including our clients. This means we have implemented curbside service for information drop offs and pickups, and our professionals will be more than available to assist with these exchanges. Additionally, please be assured that our clients can expect our traditional standard of client service and support online, over the phone, and through all digital platforms to help with any questions. We are grateful for the patience and understanding our clients have shown our team.

Finally, I would like to stress one important point: All Herbein team members have the absolute privilege to elect to work at home if they choose to do so. We are confident that we have the right business model in place to ensure seamless service delivery. And like many firms, Herbein is balancing the need to serve while taking proactive measures that support our team’s comfort and protect their health and safety.

As always, our team members are dedicated to providing exceptional service – and I would like to take a moment to thank them for their work efforts. During this unprecedented challenge, they have also come together to make a difference for our communities with our Herbein Helpers campaign for COVID-19 relief. Now, and in the weeks and months ahead, we are committed to working our way through to help create impact for our people and our clients.

We thank you for your support and value the trust you place in us. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about our office reopening plan or our firm in general.

Stay well and stay safe,

Stonesifer, David - formal first name only

COVID-19 UPDATES

----------------------------------

Communication Updated: April 1, 2020

In a few short months, our world has changed forever. None of us could have imagined when 2020 began that a pandemic would so radically impact our families and friends, and our clients and our businesses. As we have seen, this unprecedented time is shining a light on the best of the human spirit. Everyone is pulling together – and it starts with our first responders and health-care workers on the front lines helping us through the COVID-19 global health crisis. I would also like to thank you for your tremendous support and thank the entire Herbein team for their hard work.

While we navigate our present, we look to the future. Herbein is ready to help you navigate the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act – the $2.2 trillion stimulus package signed into law March 27. You can count on advice and guidance from our COVID-19 Relief Team and from all our professionals to leverage its many benefits.

Our firm is partnering with Customers Bank on Friday, Apr. 3 to present a webinar to discuss the CARES Act and Small Business Administration coronavirus (COVID-19) disaster relief lending. This is just the first of a series of upcoming webinars and communications about the opportunities available through government programs and legislation. We encourage you to access our regularly updated Coronavirus Resource Center (CRC), which provides you with our most up to date insights and analysis. If you would like to subscribe to receive our COVID-19 related blogs, please click here.

Senator John McCain once said, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the courage to act despite our fears.” These months have been really tough, and they have tested our resilience like few other events in our history. In these uncertain times, Herbein is here for you, and we appreciate the trust you place in us.

With the kindness, patience, and understanding of our people, our clients, and our communities, we will come back strong. I wish you and your loved ones continued good health and safety.

Sincerely,

Stonesifer, David - formal first name only

COVID-19 UPDATES

-------------------------------

Communication Updated: March 20, 2020

To our clients and friends,

The health and safety of our people, our clients, and our communities is Herbein + Company, Inc.’s top priority.

Since the COVID-19 situation began, Herbein has closely followed the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state health officials. As the pandemic continues to evolve, we have closed all firm offices until further notice effective Thursday, Mar. 19, 2020.

Our entire team will now be working remotely. We appreciate your support as we navigate this new way of doing business, which we prepared for in recent weeks. For the foreseeable future, our preference is that you use the Herbein client portal to provide information, though the US Postal Service is also an option. We also suggest the free Genius Scan app, which digitizes and scans documents right from your phone, wherever you are, to send information.

We would like to remind you that the federal tax filing deadline has now been extended to July 15, 2020. Our tax professionals will continue to communicate information to you as the tax landscape changes.

We will continue to monitor government communications relative to relief programs that have – and may become – available. In the weeks ahead, Herbein professionals can and will assist you in every way possible to take advantage of opportunities to ease the financial burden of this health crisis.

I would like to assure you that all Herbein team members are equipped with, and well trained on, the technology needed to work from home. Our team is ready and available to assist you during this very challenging time and beyond – and I encourage you to stay up to date on our news by reading our email updates and visiting our Coronavirus Resource Center.

Our thoughts are with the people most immediately affected by the coronavirus. We thank those working around the clock to care for them for their tireless service.

We all know these are unprecedented times. Everyone at Herbein is inspired by the determination we all feel to rise to and meet this challenge. Working together with patience, kindness, and understanding, we will.

Sincerely,

Stonesifer, David - formal first name only

COVID-19 UPDATES

-------------------------------

Communication Updated: March 18, 2020

To our valued clients and friends,

As you know, individual taxpayers usually must submit their tax returns by April 15 each year. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced on March 17, 2020 that the Treasury and IRS will delay the payment deadline by 90 days. Note that the filing deadline has not been changed.

This announcement delays the tax due payment date to July 15, 2020. This announcement only affects federal returns. For the latest information on whether your state has delayed their deadline, please visit this AICPA resource.

Herbein Update
As the global COVID-19 public health emergency continues to spread and create challenges for your business and your employees, Herbein leaders are continually refining our own plans.

The annual tax filing season is typically one of the most demanding times of year for our team members. Our Human Resources team works tirelessly to both educate and assist our team members so they can remain at their best. Long hours, the stress of deadlines, and increased personal interaction can leave our team vulnerable to illness – the COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the concern for our people, our clients, and our communities. Effective March 16, 2020, Herbein has strongly encouraged all team members to work from home for the duration of this outbreak.

While our main concern is the humanitarian nature of the pandemic, we are focusing our depth and breadth of resources to ensure we remain available to serve you during this turbulent time, despite the many challenges that impact our traditional ways of doing business. However, we are taking additional measures to ensure our team members stay healthy now and into the future – and taking every precaution to mitigate their risk of exposure to COVID-19 disease.

What you need to know
  • Effective immediately, Herbein offices will not be available for in-office visits from clients, including clients dropping off or picking up tax return documents. Only Herbein team members will be allowed to physically enter our office locations. In addition, Herbein is prepared to continue operation should the need arise that we are forced to close under state mandates. Our team remains fully equipped to continue to serve you remotely.
  • All clients are asked to send in their tax information electronically, to utilize our e sign capabilities, and to use our secure portal if you are not already doing so. If you have questions about these technologies, please call your Herbein professional so we can get you set up as soon as possible.
  • With a limited staff in the office, priority will be given to returns that can be done remotely, which means returns that are not reliant on paper (either in relation to the client input documents or the final filing documents.)
Herbein plans to continue our efforts to prepare and file tax returns in a timely manner for as long as possible, however we anticipate that some tax returns will have to be extended. Any return data received after Friday, Mar. 20, 2020, will automatically mean that the return will be extended.

Please do not hesitate to contact your Herbein professional if you have any questions about our own preparedness or if we can be of assistance in ensuring your ability to address these new challenges. We recognize that this may be a prolonged effort and wanted you to be fully aware of Herbein’s commitment to help you meet challenges and advance your business objectives during this time.

On behalf of the entire Herbein team, we wish good health to you and your loved ones and thank you for your support and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented set of business circumstances.

Whether in the office, or working remotely at home - all of us at Herbein + Company, Inc. remain here for you throughout these challenging times.

Sincerely,

Stonesifer, David - formal first name only
