Career Path > Staff Accountant
A staff accountant holds a minimum four-year degree in accounting and is expected to have a basic knowledge of accounting, tax and computer subjects. Staff accountants are not required to have passed the uniform CPA Exam but should be studying and working toward passing. They are guided by a supervising accountant who briefs them on the assignment, suggests expeditious methods, answers questions, helps remedy difficulties if and when they arise, and reviews the accountant’s progress periodically.
The staff accountant will be afforded excellent training, guidance and supervision. Capable, well-trained staff accountants are the principal source of future senior accountants, managers, senior managers, and partners. As a staff accountant gains experience and proficiency, the accountant is given more difficult assignments and greater responsibility and will later handle entire engagements.
