Internship Program

Our internship program provides students with hands-on, real-world experience across a variety of practice areas. Whether you’re a freshman exploring career possibilities, a sophomore building foundational skills, or an upperclassman eager to deepen your expertise, our program is designed to support your growth and career aspirations.

Recruitment Timeline

We begin recruiting for our Spring and Summer internship programs each year from August through October. These internships offer a chance to collaborate with seasoned professionals, develop valuable skills, and gain insight into what makes Herbein an exceptional place to launch your career.

Upcoming Campus Recruiting Events

Each year, we recruit at colleges and universities by participating in alumni mentoring programs, career fairs, interviewing sessions on campus, class guest speaking, and more. Our recruitment process for staff and internship-level opportunities occurs during the fall each year primarily. We conduct on-campus interviews arranged through each campus’ career center in September and October - and also conduct interviews at our offices. In October/November, we typically host a “Call Back” day for second and final round interviews with selected candidates. We also host activities throughout the year in our offices to provide opportunities for candidates to connect with our professionals and learn more about our firm.

Position Summary

As a tax intern, your internship will encompass a variety of different things. You will be a welcomed member of our tax department and be included in our firm staff meetings and activities. Your responsibilities may include any of the following:

Prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns
Preparation of individual tax returns
Interpret raw data from client’s files and input into tax software
Prepare and maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedule
Work with federal government forms in tax system

Upon starting you will receive comprehensive training from Herbein tax professionals. You will report directly to a tax supervisor but will have full access to all levels within the firm, including partners – for any questions.

You can look forward to our tax season events such as massages, the Herbein invitational (where we turn the firm into a mini golf course), annual ice cream social (where the partners serve everyone ice cream) and more!

Requirements

Sophomore-Senior year
Scheduled to take or have taken a tax course
3.0 GPA or higher
25 hours a week minimum
Accounting or Finance Major
Proficient with technology
Must exercise complete confidentiality

Career Path > Staff Accountant

A staff accountant holds a minimum four-year degree in accounting and is expected to have a basic knowledge of accounting, tax and computer subjects. Staff accountants are not required to have passed the uniform CPA Exam but should be studying and working toward passing. They are guided by a supervising accountant who briefs them on the assignment, suggests expeditious methods, answers questions, helps remedy difficulties if and when they arise, and reviews the accountant’s progress periodically.

Herbein provides everyone the opportunity to advance to their maximum potential. Advancement to Partner by each individual is limited only by that individual’s abilities.

CPA Exam

Our firm supports the successful completion of the CPA exam for all professionals. In addition to the expense reimbursement, our firm provides a CPA exam coach to guide and mentor candidates through the exam process.

Firm Environment and Events

Firm events allow us to showcase our individuality and network among our peers. This opportunity to share experiences with other team members outside of the work environment is valuable and contributes to the success of our firm. We participate in events such as:
