Christopher M. Turtell, CPA is a Partner in the accounting and audit department at Herbein + Company, Inc. Chris specializes in local governments and school districts, including compliance with Uniform Grant Guidance requirements. He is responsible for leading and overseeing government audit engagements for the firm, which is one of the firm's largest niches.

Chris was named partner in 2016, and is the partner in charge of over 30 audit clients including community colleges, school districts, intermediate units, and municipalities. In this role Chris is looked at as an important advisor, responsible for coordinating the financial audits as well as building and maintaining relationships with client management and governance.

Internally, he is a key component in the firm's quality control process for internal inspections and peer reviews. An important aspect for the firm, Chris' responsibility includes assisting in coordinating the firm's annual inspection process, which is a self-evaluation of the firm's procedures and client deliverables. The results of this process allow for continuous improvement of the quality of the firm's product.

Chris is a certified public accountant and a frequent speaker at the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) School District and Local Government Conferences, as well as the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials' annual conference. He also regularly helps develop and present in-house and client seminars on emerging industry issues and best practices.

Throughout his career, Chris has embraced a leadership role on the technical side of the practice as well as on the personal development of others. Chris' commitment to client service, developing staff, and making a difference for the firm is unwavering. These qualities as well as his commitment to work life balance make him a key member of the Herbein leadership team.

In his free time, you can find Chris coaching his sons' little league baseball teams. He makes sure to volunteer at their school district as a watch dog dad (D.O.G.S.) program, and loves family trips to Disney. He also is a member of the Herbein softball team!

FUN FACT: Chris and his wife have watched a baseball game in 19 different major league stadiums on a quest to see them all.
