Paula D. (Deane) Markle, CPA has over 35 years of experience in public accounting, including 6 years with a “Big 4” accounting firm. Deane began her career with Herbein in 2003.

Licensed in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina, Deane has experience with federal and multi-state income tax compliance and planning services for all types of business entities.  Areas of specialty include real estate, healthcare, manufacturing, investment companies and service providers.

Deane has a particular passion for tax planning and advisory services related to estates and trusts.  On November 16, 2020, she received certification in Estate Planning in a program offered by the Association of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). This certification is awarded to CPAs with enhanced knowledge of the estate planning life cycle, including gifting strategies, charitable planning and integration of client’s estate plans with tax and financial plans. “Without proper planning and analysis, estates may suffer serious tax consequences,” explains Deane. She works closely with estate and trust attorneys and clients, including closely-held businesses, high-net worth individuals and beneficiaries, to limit their tax liabilities.

With all of her clients, Deane takes a proactive, hands-on approach to help them reach their goals.  As she puts it, “I will do whatever it takes to get the job done. My clients will tell you that. They value my insight and expertise and these relationships make my job extremely satisfying.”

Being able to balance her career at Herbein while raising three daughters has also been very satisfying for Deane. “My favorite thing about working for Herbein is flexibility,” asserts Deane, “I started part-time with Herbein when my youngest two daughters were in preschool.  Herbein allowed me to gradually increase my hours as my daughters grew until I was ready to join the firm full-time.  This allowed me to have the best of both worlds:  time with my children and time to do the type of work that I love to do.”  Her three daughters have all graduated from college and are now living and working in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, respectively. The entire family, including Deane’s husband Bill, love vacationing together every year in Disney World.  Deane also enjoys reading, walking and relaxing with her two dogs.
