As Partner and Director of Firmwide Tax Services, Maria D. Stromple, CPA, MST, PFP, is responsible for providing a consistent approach to client services, establishing and monitoring tax policies and procedures, overseeing staff training and mentoring and creating processes to ensure that the firm is providing progressive tax services.

Maria has more than 30 years of public accounting experience.  Her diversified experience includes federal and multistate compliance and planning for closely-held businesses as well as comprehensive strategic tax planning to high net worth individuals, executives and family-owned businesses.  Maria's expertise includes philanthropic tax planning, retirement planning, executive compensation tax benefit planning and individual state residency planning.

Maria has provided generation planning for families and consulting for family members, including estimating future tax liabilities, formulating Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) solutions, IRA beneficiary and distribution planning as well as social security planning.  Her capabilities include modeling implications for stock options, charitable gifting and the execution of effective tax strategies.

Maria also has experience in the representation of clients before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Pennsylvania Board of Appeals and Board of Finance and Revenue and Revenue Departments of Ohio, New York and New Jersey.  She also works closely with attorneys in evaluating tax matters and language for partnership agreements.

Maria's experience also includes firm process improvement initiatives, as well as management and coordinating of firm's tax software, technical training programs and public speaking for professional organizations.

How did you first decide on the accounting field? When I was a Junior in high school and discovered T Accounts!

Who is the most influential person in your life and why? My father! He taught me that perseverance pays off and to be passionate about pursuing my goals.

What would you like to be remembered for? I want to be remembered for my passion - to always do what's best for my family, myself, my clients and my friends.

What would you tell a brand new college graduate trying to get a job in accounting? It's never too early to start networking!

What is something not many people know about you? I am the only person in my family who was born in the USA.

What distinguishes Herbein from other firms in your opinion? Herbein has the culture of a regional firm with the technical expertise of a national firm.

What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time? Baking, gardening and reading a good novel.

What is your guilty pleasure? I love to relax at the beach.
