My First Experience at an Annual Meeting
If you have been following my blogs throughout the summer, you may remember me mentioning my first audit client experience as an intern. If not, I’ll refresh your memory. I went to Maryland in June to perform a client's annual audit with Dave, Josh, Kyle and Pavel. I had a really great experience and learned so much from being able to see how an annual audit is performed. A few weeks ago, I received an email inviting me to go along with the audit team for the clients annual meeting.
At first I wasn’t sure if it was my place to go, but I decided that I wanted to make the most of this summer internship and experience the annual meeting. I also figured it would be good exposure to things I would be encountering in the future. That being said, on Tuesday night I met up with Dave, Josh and Pavel. It was definitely an eye opener for me. This was a dairy cooperative, so there were hundreds of dairy farmers all in one big room. I don’t think I actually realized how many people are associated with them until I got into the room and saw the number of farmers and their families. Not only were we given pie and ice cream, but I was able to listen to the presentation that was given about the coop’s year.
They talked about everything from money matters to quality of the milk to properly taking care of the cows. There were so many things that I never realized would be discussed at an annual meeting. It was amazing to me how all of those people are connected through one client and they were all in that room for the same exact reason. Dairy farming is their lives and they depend on it to live.
I don’t know a lot about the dairy industry yet, but I am thoroughly enjoying learning about it. Being at the annual meeting gave me an opportunity to hear and learn things about the dairy industry that I did not know before.
