May 2017 Herbein Hero – The Preeclampsia Foundation

Herbein is pleased to announce The Preeclampsia Foundation as the recipient of the May 2017 Herbein Community Heroes Award.

The Preeclampsia Foundation aims to find a cause and cure for this potentially life-threatening disorder of pregnancy.  5-8% of all pregnancies are affected by preeclampsia - diagnosed by the elevation of the expectant mother’s blood pressure - putting both mother and child at risk.  The $500 award from Herbein + Company, Inc. will be donated through the Pittsburgh Promise Walk for Preeclampsia taking place at the North Park Boat House on Saturday, July 15th.

The Pittsburgh Walk is being coordinated by Mary and Jay Korey who lost their second child, Riley, to preeclampsia in 2013 when Mary was 36 weeks pregnant.  She and Jay have devoted themselves to raising awareness of the disorder along with funds for research so that others will not have to suffer the same tragedy.  Money raised through the Walk goes to the Preeclampsia Foundation headquartered in Florida, which in turn has been helping to fund research being done by Dr. Arun Jeyabalan at Magee-Women’s Hospital of UPMC in Pittsburgh.

At the Pittsburgh Promise Walk, Mary & Jay will be joined by their other two children, 6-year-old Timothy and 2-year-old Alana.  If you’d like join them or get more details, click here: www.promisewalk.org/Pittsburgh
