Biography

Take risks. If you succeed, you will be happy. If you fail, you will be wiser.

Roxanne N. McMurtry, CPA is a Senior Manager in the accounting and auditing department at Herbein. Roxanne joined the firm in 2005, and is a key team leader on Herbein's specialized government team.

This means that Roxanne focuses on clients who are subject to standards from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), which allows her to better assist with implementation of new standards and provide consultation on efficiencies and best practices. Roxanne is responsible for all aspects of the engagement including staff scheduling and leadership, planning, preparation and review of audit procedures, and financial statements.

Roxanne is the current President of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Reading Chapter - serving her term until May, 2020. She also serves on the PICPA Council, a statewide council. It's no surprise that a large part of her activities are devoted to the PICPA including serving as Co-Chair of the Community Engagement Committee (focused on getting CPAs involved within their local communities to give back), and a member of the Emerging CPAs committee (works towards engaging younger CPAs for the future of the profession). She also coordinates Herbein's involvement with PICPA activities including networking events, Hats and SOX Drives (collecting and distributing warm hats and socks to men and women in need), and Stuff the Bus campaigns. She regularly presents to local area high schools on the importance of financial literacy, and through Junior Achievement participated in a seven week program focused on preparing students for employment after graduation.

"I'm a firm believer in promoting the future of our profession to benefit both our team and clients. Being involved with the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants has allowed me to gain leadership experience, make connections, and give back to our community where we live and work."

In 2013, Roxanne was the recipient of the PICPA Young Leader Award. This award recognizes members under the age of 40 who demonstrate their commitment to the accounting profession through active PICPA or community volunteer efforts.

Roxanne graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Accounting. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, son, daughter, and two cats.
